How Falls Impact American Seniors
In America, one in 10 falls results in an injury that limits activity or requires medical care for a prolonged period. (1) Each year, about 3 million emergency visits and 1 million hospitalizations among older adults are due to falls. (2)
Falls are expected to rise as the senior population grows. In 2019, 83% of hip fracture deaths and 88% of hospital visits for hip fractures were caused by falls. (3) Nearly 319,000 older adults are hospitalized for hip fractures each year. (3) It’s also the most common cause of traumatic brain injuries(TBI) (4)
